Medical Education Conference Feedback

Responses from students (Closing session, conversations, etc.)

Heard during closing session:

  • Surprised to have such easy conversations with Vellore Medical College faculty (their experience is more being rather afraid of their professors).
  • Everyone treated with respect here, there is a lot of teamwork, everyone contributes.
  • Commitment to being ‘Professional not Commercial’ as a future doctor
  • From first year:  this was first chance for a conference like this—hope will happen again as learned a lot and would like to learn more.
  • Didn’t really understand about service until coming here, want to be a good doctor.
  • Thought we would be bored, and perhaps go see Kanta Nagar, Swapnopuri, Ramshagor.  But the presentations were so good, we stayed for the whole conference.  Please have it longer next year—4 or 5 days.

Heard from LAMB staff children:

  • Rinku:  motivated him to study theology as well as medicine, having seen the way the presenters (LAMB staff and Indian visitors) combined Biblical truth/teaching with the professional/medical elements.  He took along a stack of free tracts to distribute to friends at hospital where he works (felt encouraged by the good things people said about LAMB to share more openly about his faith).
  • Nikon:  several friends were ambivalent about coming—the ones who did were VERY glad they did and want to come again; those who didn’t will hear how good it was and regret not coming.
  • Alfred:  was nervous about how friends would respond to LAMB, was relieved that everyone had such a good time, good learning, and now feels will be able to talk more about LAMB and twice as many will come if hold this conference again next year.
  • Borna:  didn’t actually know that much about LAMB professionally, but now is motivated to become a better professional.

Heard after devotion on John 9 by Vikram:

  • ‘My sister has been reading all these books [holding Kitabul, also referring to Quran and Gita], searching for God.’  She was encouraged to take the Kitabul herself and search for God, too, especially f/u devotions about Jesus in John Chap. 9.

Heard during tea after closing and departure time:

  • ‘I feel the whole direction of my life has changed.’
  • ‘May I call you ‘Aunty’?  I feel I now know you like family.’
  • People were buying Bibles, taking tracts from reading room table at entrance to HRDC.

Heard from LAMB staff (CHDP, hospital)

  • ‘This is the future of Bangladesh medicine, and we are going to see the fruit of this conference for many years.’
  • ‘They were so interested in talking to the patients, talking to the community committee chairmen, asked very good questions.’
  • ‘We will see what happens when postings for post-graduate begin for this group:  whether they want to come to LAMB.’
